Your Certified Sleep Consultant

Exeter Massage Therapy

Louise is absolutely passionate about the benefits of massage therapy. She truly believe everyone can benefit from massage therapy and strives to offer the very best massage treatments.

The type of massage therapy she offers is holistic bodywork which is client centred, understanding that there a many reasons and life experiences that bring you to the treatment room, not just physical injury.

Instead of just looking at the problem and the body part it affects, she looks at you as a whole. This involves a more in depth consultation that you might be used to and allows time and space to discuss what is needed. Treatments tend to be longer and multiple modalities are used; a mixture of modern massage techniques from the West and traditional philosophies and practices from the East.

During your treatment you will have a thorough consultation and Louise will design a treatment plan specifically for you. She does not use fixed routines or sequences and your treatment is likely to include a range of techniques which will best treat your condition. For example combining deep tissue massage with hot stones is extremely effective in treating tight muscles and then using advanced sports stretches helps stretch out and restore length and mobility to muscles, improving your range of motion.

Louise Jocelyn

Louise Jocelyn,

specialising in remedial and deep tissue massage, Thai massage and hot stone therapy

“I would highly recommend for those wanting a great treatment where you’re in the hands of someone who is obviously highly trained”.

As a massage therapist I have developed a real passion for healing through bodywork and I combine my knowledge of massage and yoga to offer a unique approach to treatment. As well as offering luxurious massage treatments to reduce stress and increase relaxation I use a range of modern massage techniques designed to target specific locations of chronic or acute pain and injury. Combing specific acupressure points and deep stretches into your treatment improves the flow of energy throughout the body and leaves you feeling refreshed and re-energised.

I have always been drawn to working with people and especially enjoy helping people work through traumatic experiences. After leaving school I began a successful career as a youth worker and after completing my BA (hons) in youth work I spent over 10years working with young people experiencing a range of different issues, later specialising in supporting young victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

After practising talking therapies, creative play and art I became more and more interested in working with the body to release pain and heal from trauma. This led me to train as a massage therapist and become fully qualified in bodywork. However I felt restricted by the western approach to massage which often focuses on specific areas of pain. After travelling to Thailand in 2010 everything changed and I knew I had found what I was looking for. I saved every penny until I was able to return in 2012 and spent 1 year studying Thai massage, Hatha yoga, Eastern philosophy and meditation. I have integrated this knowledge into my massage practice and I am fully committed to sharing the benefits of massage with others.

Treatments include Swedish Massage for relaxation, Remedial Massage Therapy for chronic and acute pain management, Thai structural Bodywork, Advanced Stretching and Hot and Cold stone therapy.

I am committed to professional development and received a distinction in my remedial massage studies as well as a special award in my teacher training in Thailand.

FAQS

Which treatment should I book?

Each treatment is tailored to your individual needs so you just book an appointment and I will create a treatment plan depending on your needs. It is recommended to book at least 1hour for your first appointment to enable you to get the full benefit from the treatment. During your first appointment you will receive a complimentary 15 minutes for consultation and after care. If you would like a more detailed conversation this can be done via telephone free of charge.

What should I wear?

During relaxation, remedial or oil massage you will undress (underwear on) so it does not matter what you wear, as long as you are comfortable. I regularly using advanced sports stretching and Thai massage stretching which can all done performed with drapes- you may however feel more comfortable wearing leggings or shorts if this is applicable. If you are having a traditional Northern Style Thai massage this is performed fully clothed and I recommend wearing sports clothes but this will be discussed at the time of booking.

How long do I need?

As a general rule remedial massage takes between 45 and 60 minutes per area. So if you have neck pain I would recommend a 45-60min treatment. If you have neck pain and low back pain I recommend 90mins- this allows you to get the full benefit from treatment and you will need less treatments in the long run. Full body massage is usually between 90mins and 2hours. It can be done in less time but you will not have as good a treatment.

Is one session enough?

How many treatments you have is up to you and everyone will feel differently about this. If you have a painful condition such as sciatica, a torn muscle, injury or acute stress it is best to come at least weekly until you are out of pain. At this stage remedial massage can aid the healing process and ensure you are less likely to re-injure yourself. Most regular clients come weekly, monthly or 6 weekly to help maintain their health and wellbeing. Others prefer to book a relaxation massage as a one off treat for a birthday or special occasion and that is absolutely fine.

How much does it cost?

30 mins – £30

60 mins – £49

90 mins – £70

120 mins – £90
